I enjoy sharing astronomy with a wider audience, especially through public talks for libraries, astronomy clubs, and student groups. Many of these talks grew out of my research life: telescopes, spectra, quasars, black holes, and the changing view of the Universe brought by new space observatories.
Below are selected public talks, with slide covers from several events. A more complete list is available in my CV.
The Beauty of the Space
A visual journey through planets, nebulae, star-forming regions, galaxies, and deep-field images.
An introduction to how astronomers use spectra to measure the physical properties and motions of celestial objects.
A Brief History of Black Holes
From the idea of escape velocity to modern black-hole imaging, gravitational waves, and accretion physics.
The Big Eyes
A public introduction to astronomical telescopes, from small optical instruments to large modern observatories.
Astronomy in Everyday Life
A friendly entry point to astronomy through daily life, seasons, the night sky, and familiar questions about the cosmos.
